Difference in Action Initiative
Overview/Background
As Envision Difference has revolved primarily on helping society at large with research projects that spread awareness and promote change. The purpose of the Boots on the Ground Initiative is to incorporate a branch within Envision Difference focused solely on public outreach and community engagement, specifically within mental health work and support for the unhoused population, connecting back with the roots of the organization. Through this initiative, various community service events, including publicity, volunteer work, resource drives, and other such efforts serve the greater Boston area and beyond through a team of dedicated workers. This would allow for Envision Difference to have a stronger physical presence and become a two-headed spear assisting society in exemplary research as well as prominent community service.

Milestones/Timeline
Program Establishment Starting July/August of 2025, the Boots on the Ground Initiative would begin after being approved and personnel found. A page on the website would be created, and an email set up so that volunteer applicants can reach out and announcements (possible weekly newsletter in the future) can be made. A board (Director and Secretary) would be elected. The first event would begin to be set up at this point.
First Service Event The first event occurs in October of 2025 with the Bread of Life organization through publicity/support work from volunteers. Volunteers can/would be taken from the existing Envision Difference team, including fellowship students and potentially the board, and searches for outside volunteers would begin shortly after approval and commencement in August. Team leaders for this event would be the director and secretary and outreach begins in August with an email proposal towards the Bread of Life media director prepared by the team leaders, similar to the process performed in May of last year for Bread of Life Malden. This event would include a vlog/documentary of work that goes on in the organization and would be posted to the Envision Difference website, as well as social media to maximize awareness and garner support for their organization. Includes day of service activities such as through participation in food drives or other media work, the event can be expanded. Volunteers will be encouraged to think of other ways to adjust/expand this event as well.
First Capstone Event By the end of May 2026, the first service capstone event would be established. It would revolve around mental health support as an event hosted by a University in the Boston Area, namely Tufts University. Starting in December, emails will be sent out to the Tufts University child studies department. A small curriculum along with mental health exercises (including meditation practices, how to spot signs of depression, and stress ball/slime making workshops will take place).

Goals
- Volunteer Service Event Every Other Month: To ensure routine efforts to serve the community, one of the primary goals of this initiative is to do an outreach event at minimum every other month. This can include service of a pre-existing organization, food/clothing/resource drive, or street-level effort to provide support to unhoused populations
- Capstone Service Project Once Every Year: To maximize impact on the community, a capstone service project should happen once a year. This would be much larger in scale than the bimonthly service projects and can range from an effort to collaborate with a school/university to implement a seminar/class that provides skills such as CPR or raises awareness for mental health all the way to organizing an event with a local hospital supporting mental health/healthy lifestyle practices.
